PRRI e-Learning for Farmers

I have been fairly busy preparing on-demand e-Learning modules for our teachers at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde - but along comes a project that is so challenging, so visionary - that it immediately drew me (and my Moodle team).

The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PRRI) is one of the more pioneering government institutions in harnessing technology for information dissemination to its primary constituents - Filipino Rice farmers. I signed up for the chance to prototype and co-develop e-
Learning modules in the PRRI Online site. The PRRI site was developed on the Moodle Learning Management System, a free, open source system for e-Learning.

A guest from the International Rice Research Institute commented that PRRI was prudent in its choice to shift to open source software as IRRI was also taking similar steps to shift to non-proprietary software. I look forward to seeing this site as a "one-stop-shop" where Filipino farmers can access all types of crops, not just rice. Above is a picture of the PRRI e-Learning team. From left:

Kudos to Dr. Leocadio Sebastian on his vision and hardworking team! (Picture taken 2007.Apr.11)
